Oi,
So I'm one of those kinds of video-gamers who has played a wide variety of games, but usually specializes in something. I, for example, have played far too many first-person shooters for my own good for the entirety of my life. I've played many rts's as well, but I never endeavored to get better at them, to "fiend" one as many may call it. I played Starcraft, DoW, CoH, Zero Hour, W3, etc., but I never found myself wanting to specialize in it, and thus I always had the same problem in online games: I played like a stereotypical noob.......sat back, built 1 or 2 defenses, and attempted to just tech my way to big units, thereby getting absolutely spanked when not playing with my other more noobish friends in a lan party or whatever. Now Supreme Commander however is here, and it's made me want to specialize: to get good, and I'm starting to do the right things, expanding, pumping out armies, and that sort of a thing, but it's so f****** annoying to get my ass kicked every single moment, so I'm wondering.....where do I begin? Is there some sort of strategy or general idea to rts's I haven't focused enough on. Certainly Supreme Commander is a vastly different and difficult rts from all the more....shall I say....typical rts's out there (damn you c&c3) but seriously, I'd like to learn and perhaps be able to give you guys a decent match......play like the top 1000 people and give a battle worthy to watch replays for, or what makes this game the truly psychotic spectacle that it is. Training or advice could help.....thanks for the time....sorry for ranting (god this games freaking hard) St.Ike Last edited by St_Ike : 03-23-2007 at 05:42 PM. |

Speaking as a replay reviwer, post up games that you've lost and set the upload type (in the upload manager thingo) to "review requested," if i thnik you need to rethink build orders or a change of strat then i'll tell you.
We really need more reviwers, I hardly get to play! |

1) Do what Leaf says, only though if you really don't know what you did wrong.
2) Ask your opponent on how you could improve, most will help you ( Most players here aren't that ego here )3) Make friends on GPGnet and do friendly's with them ( You can always add me, got same nick in GPGnet; msn : shadow15@telenet.be. Now i'm not good myself, but to play eachother you can always practice )4) Watch replays ( That's what they tell me but i don't know at what i need to pay attention to ( is this sentence even correct? ))5) Leaf, if i had it in me I would offer my help, but i'm not that good in reviewing

As I see it, RTS is all about multitasking. In first person shooters you can focus on shooting, throwing a grenade.
You pretty much just have to do one thing at a time, so it is really hard to adjust to the RTS style, where you have to fight battles, build up your economy, scout, think about what the enemies strategy might be etc. I have exactly the same problem as you six years of playing Counter-Strike have taken their toll on my multitasking ability.I think the only thing that helps is practice. Play a lot and try to play on the highest level of multitasking that is possible for you. You'll eventually get used to it, that level will shift upwards and you will be a worthy opponent for "ze pros" All the best Phil btw, GPGnet's the same nick as here. Xfire is "hsbyempty". |

FPS requires multitasking too, you need to watch for enemies and where your teammates are ( especially if ff is on ) and also if the bomb was planted you need to seek that too ....

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In other news. Improving your game requires commitment. Play a lot of ranked games, you will lose a fair few of them, don't worry about that just be sure to either ask yuor opponent what he thinks u cudda done better or watch back the replay to try and understand. Unfortunately there are no quick fixes for gameplay, you justhave to put in the time! |
