Cybran Shields...

Right, we all know that Cybran has possibly the worst shield gens in the game. The generator is too big, the shield is too small and too weak to be very useful most of the time...

However, yesterday I saw in a game, a T2 Generator surrounded by 4 T3 Power gens, it's arms were spread wide and it's shield bubble was HUGE, bigger then any I've seen for a single generator before.

It was still a T2 Generator, it was still Cybran. So, I ask you...do we have to surrounded Cybran shield gens with T3 gens to make them useful, of have I missed something somewhere.

The Cybran shields can be upgraded, but not in tech level, it's done the same way you upgrade your ACU, there are 4 upgrades to a cybran shield generator, ultimately making it rather powerful, however time and resource consuming to get good shields.

surrounding with gens only gives the advantage of lesser energy consumption. oh and cybran shields suck ... very much ... very very much

When you don't upgrade a cybran shield it can't even cover a land factory and it takes seconds to upgrade it with an ACU or some engineers helping it so I generally build the shield gen and then attach the engineers which built it to it. A cyran shield is a shield when you upgrde it. I couldn't believe how you didn't know that it was upgradeable... I always check if a unit or a building have any upgrades.

patch 3251 changes upgrade system. now u can upgrade shields like other factions. and u can queque

heh, yeah, pretty funny some people don't realise you can upgrade it - which it isn't obvious you can! but this is why i always prefered cybran shields to other factions, as you can upgrade them earlier than T3. But just looking at the other shields, is this correct/ new?: UEF T2 shields can be upgraded to T3 shields? Aeon can't.

A trick about sheilds that not everyone might know is that you can have engineers assist them to refill their bar constantly at the cost of energy - this can be VERY significant with enough building power, and even if you have a pair of t2 engi's under the bubble when attacked, it can make the difference of buying you 5 more seconds of bubble, and in those 5 more seconds you may kill enough units that he can't outdamage your bubble repair. Just remember to stay positive energy or else the shield will turn off entirely!

I had a custom game where the enemy came next to my base with 6 destroyers and I had no defense, so i had 5 scu's quickly build a tech 2 shield, and then assist it (if I had upgraded, they would have changed from refilling shield to helping upgrade, which is no-no), and the destroyers couldn't outdamage the repairs as I built TML's under the bubble.
