I'm reading the posts on this Forum from a bunch a weeks now and I think it's great to see all your strategies about SupComm. But I didn't see any topics about the Artillery. So I,m starting it, right now!
So In Three (3) questions: With what Faction do you use the Artillery most of the time: When do you use it in the game: Is it for Defensive or Offensive stance? Of course if you can answer untold questions, do it! ![]() In fact, I,m still a "n00b". I tried to play a first ranked game but I fell in the game against a guy who was ranked 2000 and above... I lost, of course, but I was a pain, he told me. For now on, I've been able to make my friend buy SupComm and we play together now... against AI. =P But in one match, in particular, I started to build artillery pieces on artillery pieces ( I was UEF). We won. In all I had 23 Tech2 Artillery, and 3 Dukes.I don't say that is the best strategy out there... Cause if it was, you would had already a topic for it! =P But I love artillery and if there is a lot of artillery occasion it would be great know! ![]() ( I wasn't able to get the Mavor yet, but I saw the Experimental Artillery of the Cybrans, wich I think is so... cool! ^^) Jessan

Mind you, that ex artillery takes forever to get set up and eats huge resources. Before I say anything else, I want to make it clear I'm a noob aswell so don't take any advise as something working or optimal at all.
I do also like artillery but mainly put up one or two early to try and guard/attack front mexes. The problem with artillery out in the open is that it doesn't provide all that huge range and you have to guard it well, wasting a lot of resources there. Given it doesn't get taken down and the enemy is trying to rebuild those mexes, it works quite well. Another aspect with artillery is that it is very easy to micro your way out of it's fire. As I see it, you need a huge income to be able to defend your artillery while simultaniously pushing forward and to be honest, it doesn't take many bombers to waste that time and resources spent building the artillery. It is good in the front if someone's is turtled in and has no air forces though. On water maps, I usually build a few artilleries to take out incoming ships along with missile defenses. I don't really know how to play water maps yet as I most often loose to spams of frigates raiding my base early on. |

I hate to break it to you but nobody uses artillery during a game. t3 artillery is NEVER (caps is deliberate) used. The only time it is used is to break a stalemate and even then its a last ditch move, extremely uncommon. Ive played must be near 150 games and never seen t3 arty used well. T2 is used occasionally but only to wipe tricky defence systems that are stopping ppl from getting anywhere. Ur best bet is not to build it as it is a major drain to your mass. Using them to wipe out ships is not a bad move however but bombers and gunships would be better advised. Mind you, Im not very good so Im probably not one to speak.
