I have no idea what is possible and what isn't but some kind of program that could convert replays to avi or anything else viewable with windows media player (default) would be nice. So that one can watch a replay without the lag if he has a lower end system.

Fraps is indeed one of the easiest ways, after that you got indeed huge uncompressed data files. but when you edit it and render it again you can get it every size you want... depends on the quality of course...
btw for the "Ultimate Commander" I used Vegas 7.0d for editing ![]() |

A program that reads in a supcom replays and converts them to a video is not going to happen, although it would be handy. Basically it would have to be a mod within the game that would be more advanced and difficult to make than pre-existing solutions like fraps. And the other issue with fraps using a replay is you don't get the complete view of the player, just what they did. i.e. mouse clicks, screen changes, etc. That stuff is nice to see so you have a better understanding of what it takes to have a "good game."

A program that can export the replays files from supcom to video is not even possible because you can't track anything of what is going to happen in the game like you said. There are 2 things I can think of.
1. An option in the game itself that you record you're replay and it automaticly exports to an video file like fraps does but then more efficient. 2. Or an functionality that you automatically make 30 screenshots each second I didn't understood everything...

You could always watch the replay and record the watching of it with fraps.. but that's not quite as good as recording the actual game from the POV of a player as pointed out.
Does mean you can switch viewpoints to illustrate things, spin down to dramatic camera angles to watch an attack etc. though. |
